Divine Company

Project Overview

Marketing piece for the new experience and costume design.

Planning

Big Blue Whale first came across Divine Company at Latitude 2018 where we were filming their She Shine On parade. Divine were keen for us to film another of their events, but this time down in Westminster, London.

The event was to be a showcase of performance and event ideas aimed at event managers. Divine were creating all the dancers costumes from recycled materials as they have committed to being a carbon neutral organisation. After some initial discussions it was agreed that we would send just one camera operator as it was essential that our impact on the event itself was as low key as possible, something we are very good at.

Creation

On the night of the event we filmed a small troupe of ballerinas in dresses made of cardboard, a dancer in a glass like dress with macaroons being offered to guests from the dress itself and a group of Roman stilt walkers feeding guests chocolate grapes. The challenge on the night was the short performance times so our camera operator had to work quickly to get a good mix of shots.

For the edit we went with a super wide screen split screen approach, something we have not tried before. We wanted to give the film a feeling of high fashion and glamour.

Results

The response from Divine was very positive with comments on the lovely shots and fab edit. This first film was an overall showcase for the event, dancers and costumes to give Divine an idea of what we filmed. The plan is to move forward with more videos focusing on each of the performances. We cannot wait to get stuck in.
