Live at Leeds

Project Overview

Live at Leeds is a music Festival that takes place across various venues in Leeds. We produced the video content for the event.

Planning

Future Sound welcomed us back to film and edit for our third Live at Leeds in a row. It has now become an annual event for Big Blue Whale marking the start of our festival season. As a result, we now have a very good idea of what is needed to be captured for this award winning metropolitan festival held on the May bank holiday in Leeds. Our job was to move around all the different venues with our cameras capturing footage for as many bands as possible whilst also gathering as much atmosphere of people enjoying themselves as possible. We were given a loose brief with the understanding that we would deliver our usual high quality video.

Creation

As a team of three this year we split the day up into the different acts we knew would bring in the crowds to make a high energy video that featured an eclectic variety of music acts. We arrived nice and early in Leeds city centre in order to capture the day right from the beginning. After a team meeting we went off on our own missions to cover the 10,000 music fans, 20+ stages and 200+ artists. The festival included the likes of Sundara Karma, Tom Grenhan, Sam Fender and Kate Tempist. We spent around 12 hrs moving from venue to venue with gimbals, monopods and a whole lot of other camera gear.

We all met up at the end of the night for a data dump and then it was back home ready to get an edit together for the next day as a Thank You video to be shared on social media. We then moved straight onto editing the highlight video that was to be used as promotion for Live at Leeds 2020.

Results

We once again managed to improve our workflow and got a Thank You video turned around the next day for Future Sound to put out on social as we feel it is very important to get a video out early whilst people are still excited by all the amazing live music they have seen. Within one day the video had been viewed by 10,000+ people. The second highlight video was ready for two weeks after the festival and has been a key part of the festivals marketing campaign for 2020.
